An emergency meeting is to be held this afternoon to discuss a £100,000 sterling bonus paid to former Republic of Ireland football manager Mick McCarthy.
The Football Association of Ireland is investigating allegations that a senior FAI figure actively encouraged McCarthy to ask for the bonus before signing his new contract.
McCarthy, who resigned last November, negotiated a £100,000 payment during last year's World Cup finals, just before signing a two-year extension to his contract.
He was granted the payment despite already receiving a salary increase from £180,000 a year to £350,000 a year after securing a new deal last February.
The FAI's Board of Management will hear claims at a meeting in the Red Cow Inn that McCarthy was approached by a senior figure in Japan over the bonus.
It has been reported the FAI figure in question strongly disputes the allegations.
