Racing: Kieren Fallon has until Monday to apply to the Horseracing Regulatory Authority to have a ban he picked up yesterday moved off the highly-lucrative Irish Derby weekend.
The former champion jockey was suspended for four days (July 1st to 4th) following the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday after he was found guilty of careless riding on the winner Ad Valorem.
However, under the new rules he can apply to have the ban deferred.
Malcolm Wallace, director of regulation with the HRA, explained: "He had six days from yesterday to write to us to ask to be able to ride in Ireland on the Group One days and if he does it is taken as read that he'll get it. I've already talked to the Irish Turf Club and they don't have a problem with it.
"He has six days to officially notify us and, because we know he wants to, if come the sixth day he hadn't we'd probably give his agent a nudge to keep the wheels oiled rather than have any unnecessary drama.
"The threshold went up from two to four days and yesterday Kieren asked what the threshold was and when we told him it was four days he said he wouldn't be appealing."
