THE FAMILY of Meg Walsh have called on Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to “bring justice” to them in relation to the mother of one, who was murdered four years ago.

The body of the 35-year-old Co Cork native was found floating in the river Suir near Meagher’s Quay in Waterford city on October 15th, 2006, some two weeks after she had gone missing.

Ms Walsh was reported missing following a row at the home at Ballinakill Downs which she shared with her husband John O’Brien.

In May 2008, Mr O’Brien, a bus driver, was acquitted of his wife’s murder, following a trial at the Central Criminal Court.

To mark Ms Walsh’s 40th birthday, which would have taken place on December 31st, about 70 people turned out in Waterford on Saturday, close to the spot where her body was found.

Ms Walsh’s brother James, and Sasha Keating, Ms Walsh’s daughter from a previous marriage, unfurled a banner which read: “Thank you for commemorating Meg’s 40th birthday – but where is the justice, Minister?”

Mr Walsh said: “We ask for justice; it’s a very simple question. We’d like to know after four years, how come that no one has been brought to book for Meg’s killing?”

He said he hoped Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern would not lose sight of the fact that his sister “was brutally murdered . . . with puncture wounds to her head” before being “dumped into the boot of her own car, driven to some part of the quay and thrown into the river”.
