Online tickets for U2's two June concerts at Croke Park in Dublin have sold out within minutes of going on sale this morning.

Online tickets for U2's two June concerts at Croke Park in Dublin have sold out within minutes of going on sale this morning.

The Ticketmaster website was flooded with traffic as hundreds of thousands of fans logged on at 8 a.m. in a bid to get their hands on the coveted tickets for the June 24th and 25th gigs.

By 9 a.m., the site was reporting that both events, expected to attract up to 70,000 fans each, had sold out.

Some fans opted for the traditional queuing method in their attempts to get tickets. It was reported that some claimed their places outside sales outlets such as HMV in Dublin up to three days ago.

Many ticket outlets in Dublin still had queues outside this morning even after the online ticket allocation had sold out.

However, tickets may still be available in some stores around the country.

Tickets for U2's Vertigo 2005 tour cost between €59.50 and €80, plus booking and handling charges. Fans were limited to purchasing six tickets for each gig.

Members of the U2 fan site u2.com stole a march on other fans earlier this week as they were allowed to purchase their tickets early through the website.

It is widely expected that the band will announce a third concert in Croke Park once all tickets have been sold for the other two.

The Vertigo tour kicks off in the US at the San Diego Sports Arena in California on March 28th. The European leg starts at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on June 10th, and the band will finish its tour in Lisbon on August 14th.
