A Co Westmeath farmer appeared at Athlone Court yesterday on two summonses relating to the alleged neglect of 28 sheep, and allowing them to remain unburied. Mr Oliver Dolan, of Mount Temple, Moate, was summonsed for the alleged offences at Drumraney on January 29th last.

The court was told that a veterinary surgeon, Mr John Broderick, found 28 dead and unburied sheep in various states of decomposition.

Judge Mary Devins struck out the neglect summons due to lack of evidence and dismissed the other summons under the Probation Act.
