A Monaghan farmer has been remanded on bail at the Circuit Criminal Court after admitting to two charges of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to an official attached to the investigations branch of the Department of Agriculture.
Austin McArdle (59), Cappog, Ballinode, Monaghan, pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared before Judge John O’Hagan at Monaghan.
McArdle was charged with making threats on March 21st and March 29th last to kill department official Brendan Daly, contrary to section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Act.
Frank Martin, prosecuting, said the State had no objection to an application by Kenneth Connolly, defending, for a further remand of McArdle on bail until June 19th, to allow for the preparation of a Probation Service report.
The application was granted by the judge, who remanded McArdle until the June sittings.
