A west of Ireland farmer was further remanded in custody when he appeared at Ballycastle District Court in Co Mayo yesterday charged with the murder of a 43-year-old Traveller last October.

Pádraig Nally (61), of Funshinagh, Cross, Co Mayo, is scheduled to appear at Ballinrobe Court on April 5th.

Garda Insp Michael Murray applied for a remand in custody when Mr Nally made a brief appearance before Judge Mary Devins at Ballycastle Court yesterday.

The accused, who was arrested at his home early on Tuesday, has been charged with the murder of John Ward, a father of 11, who lived at Carrowbrowne Halting Site, Galway City, on October 14th last.
