A group of dairy farmers from Munster yesterday picketed the headquarters of the Irish Farmers' Association in a dispute over the allocation of, surplus milk quotas.
The farmers placed their" picket to coincide with a meeting of the organisation's national dairy committee which was taking place yesterday.
The group, mainly from Cork and Limerick, called off the protest following a meeting with the organisation's deputy president, Mr Michael Slattery. Irish dairy farmers are producing too much milk and could face substantial fines under the EU superlevy system which allows 1.1 billion gallons to be produced annually.
