Dublin Bus has confirmed that, since introducing its policy of not supplying change on routes across the city, a minority of customers who received refund receipts have not redeemed these. It estimates that passengers are failing to collect up to £1,500 a week due to them. More than £30,000 has accumulated in unclaimed refunds since last June.
Aircoach, the private firm which operates a service between Dublin Airport and the city, yesterday announced that it would accept unredeemed Dublin Bus receipts towards the cost of its £4 fare. The company plans to collect and exchange the receipts.
"Quite frankly, people find it very inconvenient to visit Dublin Bus in O'Connell Street and obtain a refund", said Mr John O'Sullivan, Aircoach's managing director. "We believe that business should put customer service first. We are showing the way to Dublin Bus."
