The cost of each fatality, as reckoned by Goodbody Economic Consultants, is €3 million. Each serious injury is estimated to cost €386,000.
The number of cases where penalty points remain unmatched with a driver’s licence is just under 200,000.
Sunday is the worst day of the week for road fatalities, followed by Thursday. Wednesday has the fewest fatalities.
The hours of the day which are most likely to see a fatal crash are from 8pm to 10pm.
