New York - A polygamist who has five wives and 30 children was yesterday jailed in Utah for five years for bigamy and fraudulently claiming welfare. Tom Green (52) was also ordered to pay back $54,000 in welfare payments.
Green is America's best-known polygamist after going on Jerry Springer to claim he was following the original beliefs of the Mormon religion. He still faces charges of raping then 13-year-old wife Linda Kunz when he married her in 1986.
