Gardaí fear a man missing since last week when his car was found burned out may have been shot dead by an organised crime gang and buried on waste ground in west Dublin.

James Kenny-McDonagh (28), Islandbridge Court, Dublin 8, has not been seen or heard from since last Wednesday, October 27th.

The car he was driving was burned out at the Lock Road, Dublin, on the evening he was last seen. The vehicle was found on the stretch of road between Peamount hospital and the derelict Polly Hops pub.

The missing man had been last seen at about 3pm that day in Bluebell, Ballyfermot.

Garda sources said Mr Kenny-McDonagh was in touch with his mother by phone every day but had not called her since last Wednesday. “We are now definitely starting to fear the worst for him because he would never have left it so long without contacting his mother,” said a Garda source.

Gardaí believe a number of Mr Kenny-McDonagh’s associates are members of a west Dublin crime gang led by a man with a reputation for extreme violence and on whom there have been a number of murder attempts.

This man’s gang is suspected of the double drug-related murder of Patrick Murray (19) from Ballyfermot and Darren Carey (20) from Kilmainham. Their remains were found in the Grand Canal in 2000. They had both been shot and then dumped in the water.

Gardaí fear Mr Kenny-McDonagh may have crossed the gang in recent weeks. They fear he may be buried somewhere in fields or waste ground close to where his car was found.Search teams have been combing the area in recent days but have so far found nothing to suggest where he might be or what may have happened to him.

Mr Kenny-McDonagh is described as being 5ft 8in in height, of stocky build, with dark brown hair and a scar on his upper lip. He was wearing a navy jumper, white shirt, blue denim jeans and K-Swiss runners when he was last seen. The car he was driving when he was last seen was a wine-coloured Mazda 626, registration number 02-D-68758.

Gardaí have appealed for anybody who saw the vehicle or who may have information on the case to contact them at Kilmainham Garda station on 01-6669700.
