Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson declared himself happy with the progress being made by his side after tonight's 2-1 friendly win over Valerenga.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane were on target as United continued their build-up to the new season with a hard-fought win in front of a full house at the Ulevaal Stadium in Oslo.
United were always the stronger side but the Norwegians ensured their visitors had things far from their own way and scored a brilliant equaliser through Pa-Modou Kah.
Ferguson said: "It was a good work-out. They made some substitutions that brought some energy to their team, so we had to work hard. But it was the kind of thing we needed.
"We played well but at times we were a bit careless in the second half as we dropped the tempo, but that is to be expected in these type of matches.
"But we were given a test and that's exactly what we needed."
Solskjaer, made United captain for the night on his return home, opened the scoring unconvincingly after a fortuitously-awarded penalty in the 28th minute.
The hosts hit back with a scorching strike from Kah but Keane secured victory when he coolly controlled the lively Diego Forlan's cross and fired home six minutes from time.
