Ferguson pledges Rangers future

Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson has told new manager Alex McLeish he is staying at Ibrox.

Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson has told new manager Alex McLeish he is staying at Ibrox.

Reports had suggested that the 23-year-old midfielder was eyeing a move to the English Premiership, but he insists he will see out the remainder of his three-year contract with the Rangers.

It was also claimed Ferguson felt he was being driven out of Scotland by sectarian yobs who had abused him and his two-year-old son Kyle near their Hamilton home, but the player denied this was the case.

Ferguson's pledge of loyalty will be a massive boost to McLeish, whose tenure as Ibrox boss got off to a stuttering start with a 2-2 draw at Motherwell last night.

Ferguson said: "I want to make it clear that I am staying with Rangers. "I had a word with the gaffer and told him I was happy to stay.

"Of course there are always going to be stories linking me to other clubs and clubs are always going to be interested in me or anyone else in Rangers' starting 11.

"But I want to stay here and play for Alex McLeish and I'll be at Rangers for the foreseeable future.
