Sinn Fein TD for Kerry North, Mr Martin Ferris was not assaulted by Gardai while in custody at Killarney Garda station, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Garda Complaints Board found today.
Mr Ferris' director of elections Mr James Sheehan also had his complaint of Garda harassment rejected. The Garda Complaints Board rejected both complaints, while the DPP found no evidence to support a criminal charge.
Mr Ferris has called for an independent Garda complaints body following today's findings and said he was considering civil action.
He was arrested last March as part of an investigation into the abduction of a man in Castleisland. He was held for 12 hours before being released without charge.
