Fianna Fail has finally announced the date of the convention to select a candidate in the only constituency where it is in danger of not returning any TD in the next general election.
The convention in the Kerry North constituency, where there have been divisions among the candidates, will be held on Saturday, June 23rd.
There is such competition between the five declared candidates that party sources believe they may lose the seat of outgoing TD Mr Denis Foley to the Sinn Fein candidate, Mr Martin Ferris. The six declared candidates are: Cllr Norma Foley, (Mr Foley's daughter), Cllr Thomas McEllistrim, (son of the former TD, Mr Tom McEllistrim), Cllr John Brassil, Cllr Ted Fitzgerald, Cllr Ned O'Sullivan and Senator Dan Kiely.
