TransportThe Government's response to escalating petrol and diesel prices has been criticised by Fianna Fáil's transport spokesman Timmy Dooley.
He said he was dismayed at the Government’s “ongoing refusal to take any action” to ease the burden on motorists.
He said his party published a Bill last April to cut the price of petrol and diesel by 5 cents a litre. “Petrol prices at that time were just below €1.65 a litre. While the Government has been sitting on its hands, prices have hurtled towards an all-time high of €1.70. How far do prices have to go before the Government wakes up and takes this seriously?”
AA Ireland has predicted significant price rises over the next fortnight because of rising oil prices and the strength of the euro against the dollar.
