Support for Fine Gael has risen by three percentage points but support for Fianna Fáil has slumped, according to an opinion poll published this morning.
The Red C poll, published in this morning's Sunday Business Post, puts support for Fianna Fáil at 36 per cent, down four points, Fine Gael on 28 per cent, up three points, and Labour on 9 per cent, down one. Support for the Green party is unchanged at 7 per cent, while Independents are on 8 per cent up 2 percentage points.
The Progressive Democrats, whose future is in doubt, gain one percentage point since the previous Red C poll and have 3 per cent support among those polled.
As TDs return to the Dáil this week, the poll shows that half of voters do not have confidence in the Government to manage the public finances, including more than a third of those who voted for Fianna Fáil in the general election.
More than 60 per cent of those polled say the Government should cut public spending, rather than increase taxes in the October Budget.
