Seventy-five people who went missing in the past six years have still not been traced, according to the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue. He pointed out, however, that in the same time 10,614 people had been reported missing to the Garda. He was responding to Mr Jim Higgins, Fine Gael's justice spokesman who called for the establishment of a special Garda missing persons unit.

The Minister said that in the new year, the Garda and Department of Justice officials would go to Britain to assess an initiative there on missing persons.
