FINE GAEL will spend at least €150,000 on its children’s referendum campaign. The party’s director of elections Leo Varadkar said the result cannot be taken for granted.
Mr Varadkar cautioned against a low turnout and said public representatives had a duty to motivate people to come out and vote Yes on November 10th.
“We’re also conscious of the fact that we’ve already lost one referendum as a Government. We lost the referendum on Oireachtas inquiries and the opposition to that only really mobilised in the last seven to 10 days,” he said.
Mr Varadkar said it was not yet clear exactly who was opposed to the proposed constitutional amendment, which is supported across the political divide in Leinster House.
