FG tops big spenders on ads

Fine Gael has spent more than any other party on newspaper advertising, both national and regional, during this election. It accounts for more than half the money spent by all parties, according to Advertising Statistics Ireland (ASI). The party spent £275,000, or 54 per cent, with Fianna Fail spending £174,000 (34 per cent). The PDs spent £22,000, Labour £18,000, and a further £33,000 was spent by Democratic Left, the Greens, the National Party and Independents between them.

According to ASI, the total spend of £506,000 is down by 20 per cent on the November 1992 campaign.
