Fianna Fail last night selected Cllr Michael Mulcahy to contest the Dublin South Central by-election, likely to be held late next month. Mr Mulcahy was selected without a contest following the withdrawal of the only other contender, Dr Maurice Gueret. The Labour party is expected to select Dr Mary Upton, sister of the late Dr Pat Upton, whose death created the vacancy. Fine Gael and Sinn Fein are likely to hold selection conventions over the next week.
