Two more patients have died at a British hospital linked to allegations of sabotage, police said today.
Detectives are investigating a number of deaths at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Several patients were treated with an apparent contaminated saline solution, police and hospital authorities said today.
The latest patients to have died were an man (83) and a woman (84), Greater Manchester Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said. The officer clarified earlier reports suggesting a man in his 40s had died. The officer said he was in fact still very poorly.
Police are continuing to question a nurse arrested on suspicion of the murder of three other patients at the hospital.
Rebecca Leighton (27) was arrested yesterday at her home a mile from the hospital where she worked.
The three named patients who died - Tracey Arden (44), George Keep (84) and Arnold Lancaster (71) - are among 14 patients given the contaminated solution.
Police had said hospital staff contacted them earlier this month after discovering that the solution had been tampered with.
