A fifth person arrested in connection with a double murder in Dublin’s inner city last week was released late last night.
A total of five people were released last night without charge after being questioned at Store Street Garda station over the murders of Michael “Roly” Cronin (35) and James Maloney (26) who were shot dead as they sat in a car in Summerhill.
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
Mr Cronin, a convicted heroin dealer, died in the Mater hospital less than an hour after the gun attack, while Mr Maloney died in St James's Hospital two days later.
Both victims had gone to meet a criminal associate when the attack took place.
They were sitting in the front seats of a black Volvo S40 sports car on Langrishe Place, when a man in the back of the vehicle opened fire.
The suspect ran away. A revolver found under a car at nearby Gloucester Place was believed to have been used by the killer. Gardaí believe they know the identity of the suspect. He is a convicted armed robber and has a long history of drug use.
