A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions following the release of two men who had been arrested in connection with the death of a Malawian woman, whose body was found on a riverbank last month.
The body of Ms Paiche Onyemaechi (25), a daughter of the chief justice of Malawi, was found wrapped in plastic bags on the banks of the river Pil near Piltown, Co Kilkenny.
The men were arrested in Dublin city centre on Tuesday and were brought for questioning to Store Street and the Bridewell Garda stations. They are believed to be in their 20s and from Nigeria. One of the men was released without charge on Wednesday and the second man was released on Thursday afternoon.
Yesterday a Garda spokesman said a file had been sent to the DPP following their release.
Gardaí investigating the death of Ms Onyemaechi are still looking to speak to her Nigerian-born husband, Mr Chika Onyemaechi (31).
The couple had been living in Waterford with their two sons, aged three and 18 months. He has not been seen since the identification of his wife's body, and did not attend her funeral.
The couple's sons are to be brought back to Malawi to live with their grandfather, Mr Leonard Unyolo. Mr Unyolo travelled to Ireland earlier this month for his daughter's funeral. During his visit he met the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell.
