The Garda file on a Dublin man who was shot dead in his home in June 1995 is still open. At the Dublin inquest yesterday his sister appealed to the public for help in finding his killer or killers.
Supt Derek Byrne told Dublin City Coroner's Court that Mr Gerard Weafer was pronounced dead at his home at Casement Road, Finglas, on June 22nd, 1995, and despite a protracted Garda inquiry i no one had been charged with his death. The gardai were satisfied death was a homicide, he said.
A post mortem examination showed that Mr Weafer died of shotgun wounds to the head, arm and back and the jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing. Ms Teresa Weafer, for the family, asked the Garda to continue its search for her brother's killer and appealed to the public for help.
"I want to ask the gardai to do everything in their power to bring his murderers to justice," she said. "The press is aware of the number of murders of this type which are unsolved. Dublin is turning into a very sick city and people think they can get away with murders like this. I say to the public to help the gardai in every way possible," she said.
In offering his sympathy to the victim's wife, son and family, the Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, also asked the public to help the gardai with their inquiries.
