Gardaí investigating the stabbing of a boy in Waterford city centre yesterday have sent a file on the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Two men in their 20s were arrested after the 16-year-old boy was stabbed three times in the leg, arm and hand as he sat on a bus in the city centre yesterday afternoon.

A Garda spokeswoman said the pair had been held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act and released without charge but that a file was being prepared for the DPP.

The attack occurred at around 4pm yesterday as a Bus Éireann bus stopped to pick up passengers near Parnell Street, one of the busiest streets in the city. It is understood a fight broke out on board involving a number of men on the back seat leaving the teenager with several stab wounds.
