Final bin collection bills from council due this week

Final household bin collection bills for some 140,000 former customers of Dublin City Council are due to be issued this week.

Final household bin collection bills for some 140,000 former customers of Dublin City Council are due to be issued this week.

The bills which relate to the last quarter of 2011 will be issued by Greyhound who took over the council’s bin collection service last January, and have been engaged by the council to collect its outstanding debts.

Householders who had amassed arrears with the council could find themselves facing significant demands from Greyhound. However, due to data protection rules the company will not be able to refuse to collect the bins of householders who don’t pay their debts. Greyhound now operates a pre-pay model which means customers cannot accrue arrears.

Fianna Fáil councillor Paul McAuliffe said he understood that technical problems matching the Greyhound and council IT systems resulted in the delay in issuing the final council bill.
