An inter-agency group which has carried out testing for lead contamination around Silver mines, Co Tipperary, has said its final report will be completed by the end of the month. Eibhir Mulqueen.
Tests have been carried out on human and bovine blood, soil, water, herbage, silage and dust after pollutants leaked from a tailings pond (a mining waste-disposal facility) following the closure of the Mogul lead/zinc mine in 1982.
The group, made up of representatives from the Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, Teagasc, the Mid Western Health Board, Tipperary (North Riding) County Council and the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, will submit the report to the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, before it is published.
