On The Town: Before the gala fashion show began, concert pianist Darina Ní Chuinneagáin and her husband, Declan Donnelly, chatted to friends on the terrace of the US ambassador's residence in the Phoenix Park.

Their baby son, Max, who died five years ago of meningitis B and meningococcal septicaemia, was the reason the couple set up a charity to raise funds for all types of medical equipment for hospitals and paediatric units around the country. It was "because we were so shocked that Temple Street hadn't the equipment" to save Max, said Ní Chuinneagáin.

To date, the couple have bought €500,000 worth of medical equipment. The fourth Irish Tatler Designer Showcase, which was held in support of their Baby Max Wings of Love Fund, raised €15,000.

As fans whirred, guests in sandals took their seats to see models in tweeds and wool go by. The designers who showed up were Paul Costelloe, Jen Kelly, Ciarán Sweeney, Lainey Keogh, Joanne Hynes and design duo Liz Quin and Carolyn Donnelly.

John Rocha, Helen McAlinden and Orla Kiely also contributed to the show but were unable to attend.

"There's an amazing diversity of talent in Ireland, which has always punched above its weight on the international fashion circuit," said Irish Tatler publisher Norah Casey.

"They also have great brand extensions, they have that great entrepreneurial innovation."

Among those who attended the charity event were television producer Isabel Perceval and assistant producer Aideen O'Sullivan, who are currently working on a second series of No Experience Required for RTÉ; Sharon McCarthy and Tracy McCabe, with their friend, Eithne Keane, from Ashbourne, Co Meath; three of designer Lainey Keogh's seven sisters, Karni Morris, Jackie Flynn and Irene Keogh; and several members of Ciarán Sweeney's family, including his mother, Kathleen Sweeney, sister Fionnuala Sweeney, sister-in-law Kathryn Kozarits and their friend, Ann Finn.
