Fine Gael has called for a suspension of Dáil business to allow for a debate on the financial crisis at RTÉ.
The party’s spokesman on arts, heritage, culture and the Gaeltacht, Mr Dinny McGinley TD, said the situation at RTÉ was "going from bad to worse".
RTÉ has announced it plans cut its budget by up to £15 million this year, with a loss of more than 250 jobs.
The national broadcaster is experiencing record losses, estimated at £2 million a month.
Mr McGinley, TD for Donegal South West, claimed inefficiencies at the station were the root cause and called on the Minister responsible, Ms Síle de Valera, to grant funds for specific funds to maintain at least a minimum level of Irish-made programmes.
He said he was particularly concerned by the impact on Radio na Gaeltachta and TG4.
"They have a specific cultural mission established by the Dáil. They are lean efficient operations but that economy of size makes them terribly fragile and vulnerable".
