Several thousand mourners attended the removal of the remains of the late Ms Theresa Ahearn, the South Tipperary Fine Gael TD.
Her body were brought last night from her home in Ballindoney, between Cahir and Clonmel, to nearby St Nicholas parish church in Grange.
A guard of honour was led by Senator Tom Hayes and included members of local Fine Gael branches and officers of South Tipperary Fine Gael. Ms Ahearn died on Wednesday after a long illness.
A Fine Gael parliamentary group of pall-bearers, including TDs Mr Charles Flanagan, Mr Alan Shatter, Mr Paul Bradford, Mr Paul McGrath and Senator John Connor, carried the coffin from the church gate to the altar.
The President, Mrs McAleese, was represented at the removal by her aide-de-camp, Capt Michael Treacy. The remains were received by Father Eanna Condon.
Ms Ahearn is survived by her husband, Liam, sons Patrick (22), Garret (21), Liam jnr (18) and Scott (13), as well as her brothers, John, Eddie and Gus, and her sisters, Ann Scott and Mary McGrane. Her funeral takes place today following Requiem Mass at midday.
