The widow of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane has been granted leave by the High Court in Belfast to bring judicial review proceedings against Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens.

Mrs Geraldine Finucane is claiming Sir John failed to give her documentary evidence relating to her husband's murder in 1989.

Mrs Finucane said: "I am pleased the court has decided that there is an arguable case, and hopefully there will be an early hearing of this matter."

The judge, Mr Justice Kerr, has repeatedly made clear in the past that the grant of leave is in no way a forecast of the outcome of the substantive application and signifies only that an applicant has raised an argument that warrants further examination.
