Up to 30 firefighters were tonight battling a major industrial blaze in south Dublin.

The inferno broke out at the former Knorr plant in an industrial estate off Davitt Road, Inchicore, at around 6.30pm.

Dublin Fire Brigade said six pumps were still trying to get the blaze under control.

The area has been evacuated and surrounding roads closed as plumes of smoke cause hazardous driving conditions.

AA Roadwatch warned visibility is extremely poor and advised motorists to avoid the area.

It said Davitt Road is closed from Griffith Bridge on the Suir Rd through to Blackhorse, affecting the Luas red line which passes through the area.
