Fire Brigade fights Howth Hill blaze

Dublin Fire Brigade has responded to a gorse fire on Howth Hill.

The blaze is located between the Summit car park at the top of the hill and the Bailey Lighthouse. At least three engines have responded to tackle it.

It is understood that no property is under immediate threat and there have been no injuries. While the exact cause is unknown, gorse fires in the area are common in drier weather.

Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney reminded land owners and the public earlier this month that it is illegal to burn growing vegetation on uncultivated land between March 1st and August 31st. Mr Coveney made his comments following a number of gorse fires in Dublin and Galway.

He appealed to people to be vigilant for fire, to report any suspicious activity to the gardaí and to report any uncontrolled or unattended fires to the Fire Service.
