A green and blue figure 2000 incorporating Celtic whirls and exploding fireworks has been chosen as the State's millennium logo. Designed by Dubliner Paul Donnelly (21), a third-year student at the Dublin Institute of Technology in Mountjoy Square, the logo was chosen after a competition involving art and design colleges.
The Government Chief Whip, Mr Seamus Brennan, said the 2000 Ireland design, to be used on promotions, represented "the best of Ireland past and present". Donnelly was awarded £2,000 by the National Millennium Committee and a college prize of £3,000.
