FEARS THAT construction work was not going to proceed on contentious plans for park ’n’ ride facilities for the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre have been dispelled.

Managing director of the Atlantis group John D Flanagan has confirmed that work on the project is to begin in the next few months.

The project is to create 20 jobs in the construction phase and a further 20 jobs when operational.

Mr Flanagan gave his commitment to the start after the company that got planning permission for the project, Atlantis Developments Ltd, went into voluntary liquidation, leading to fears that the project would not be proceeding.

A creditors’ meeting is to be held in Limerick later this month to appoint a liquidator for the company, while separately, Anglo Irish Bank has appointed Brian McEnery of the Limerick office of Horwath Bastow Charleton as receiver to the firm.

Mr Flanagan, a director of the company, said yesterday its voluntary liquidation would not affect the proposed park ’n’ ride facilities.

He said the company had no legal interest in the lands proposed for the scheme.

“The voluntary liquidation has no bearing on the trading of other Atlantis group entities and all properties belonged to the group continue to trade.”

Mr Flanagan said there had been no redundancies as a result of the liquidation of Atlantis Developments or another Atlantis group subsidiary, Burren Coast Hotel Ltd. He said he hoped the park ’n’ ride facilities would be in operation in 2011.
