Over half of businesses in a south Dublin local authority will have their rates cut as part of a revaluation of commercial property countrywide, writes Fiona Gartland.
Almost 4,500 commercial and industrial rate payers in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area will receive proposed valuation certificates sent by the Valuation Office in the next few days.
The certificates will indicate the valuation which the office proposes entering for each property. Occupiers can then accept the valuation or request a review. Once finalised, the valuation is used by local authorities to decide how much each business will pay in rates.
Although the process is not yet complete, the office has said early indications show 54 per cent of businesses will have their rates reduced while 46 per cent are likely to have them increased.
