As First Minister in the Northern Ireland Executive, Mr David Trimble receives a total salary of £99,556: the £37,000 basic Assembly member's salary, plus £62,556 for his ministerial post.

Mr Seamus Mallon's income totals £84,504, although the £47,504 he receives for being Deputy First Minister may be increased soon to match the First Minister's.

Each of the other 10 Ministers in the Executive receive a salary of £69,451: their £37,000 basic, plus £32,451 for taking on departmental portfolios.

Members of the Executive are also entitled to claim staff costs of up to £27,000 a year and office costs of up to £7,000.

In the Republic, the Taoiseach earns a total salary of £105,057, while the Tanaiste receives £90,412 and Cabinet ministers £83,948. Ministers of State receive £57,688, while TDs and senators earn £36,015 and £22,885 respectively.
