First prize for Belfast scientists

Three Belfast girls have taken first prize at the EU Contest for Young Scientists

Three Belfast girls have taken first prize at the EU Contest for Young Scientists. Ms Ciara McGoldrick, Ms Fiona Fraser and Ms Emma McQuillan from Dominican College, Fortwilliam, Belfast, won the 1997 Young Scientists Exhibition in Dublin earlier this year with a project about the preservation of Europe's bog bodies. At the EU contest, held in Milan, they beat 77 contestants from 28 countries.

The girls collected a prize worth ecu5,000 and will now go forward to represent Europe in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Texas next year.
