Two members of the Southern Fishery Board who were under suspension with full pay were remanded on bail after appearing on charges of corruption at the circuit court in Waterford yesterday.
Mr Edward Haley, Polerone, Mooncoin, and Mr Edward Casey, Lisadell, Carrick-on-Suir, are due to appear before the next sitting of Dublin Circuit Court. Both men faced two charges of corruption under Section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The offences were alleged to have been committed between 1987 and 1993.
Judge Sean O'Leary said both men were fishery officers in Waterford and it would be unjust to try them there. Mr Tom Teehan, for the State, did not oppose the application to transfer the hearing.
