DRUG RAIDS:Five people were arrested after gardaí discovered four industrial-style cannabis grow houses in counties Kildare, Mayo, Louth and Waterford yesterday.

The Garda raid was the latest under Operation Nitrogen, which was set up to investigate all aspects of cannabis cultivation.

Gardaí searched industrial units in Buncrana, Swinford, Ardee, Newbridge, Tramore, and at Gardiner Street, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown in Dublin.

More than 6,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €5 million were found.

Two men in Ballina, two in Tramore and another in Drogheda were arrested and held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A Garda spokesman said a full investigation would take place.
