Five people have been arrested by gardaí investigating the murder of a man and woman in Limerick earlier this year.

Breda Waters (28) and Des Kelly (24), were found shot dead at a house in O'Malley Park, Southill on January 9th.

Three men – two of whom are in their 30s and one who is a teenager – and two women were arrested this morning. One of the women is in her 50s and the other is in her late teens.

They are being held at Roxboro Road, Henry Street, Mayorstone and Bruff Garda stations under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

Gardaí believe Mr Kelly was targeted because of an outstanding heroin debt and that Ms Waters was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Two men are currently before the courts charged over the murders.
