Five people were killed and more than 30 were injured when suspected Maoist rebels blew up a bus in east Nepal earlier today.
The attack came less than a week after the Communist Party of Nepal appealed for talks with authorities to try and end its six-year-old revolt against the constitutional monarchy, and vowed to stop attacks on power, transport and communication links.
A police official said suspected Maoist guerrillas ambushed the bus at Karkare in Sindhuli district, east of Kathmandu.
"Five people were killed and more than 30 others injured when the bus hit a booby trap," the official said.
