An 18-year-old woman was killed in a car accident in Co Kildare early yesterday. Ms Lorraine Bagnall, from St Patrick's Park, Celbridge, was a passenger in the car, which hit a wall on the Naas Road, Clane, at about 12.45 a.m. Four others - three men and one woman, all in their late teens or early 20s - were injured.

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Dublin early this morning.

The man was struck by a lorry at Fonthill Road, Ronanstown, Clondalkin, at around 2.10 a.m.

A Cork senior football player, Alan O'Regan (21), was in a serious condition at the Cork University Hospital last night after a weekend accident involving two cars on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road between Cork and Mallow. Mr O'Regan, from Castletownbere, and the driver of the other car were seriously injured.

A Cork man in his 30s died when a trench collapsed while he was working on the site where he was building a new home in the Glenville area of north Cork. Mr David Lee, from Thorndale Estate at Dublin Hill, was trapped in the trench and, despite efforts by fellow workers to save him, he was dead on arrival at hospital.

A three-year-old boy was killed on Saturday by a falling tree branch. Liam Kelly of Killeen, Ballyvary, near Castlebar, Co Mayo, died after the branch hit him as it fell from a tree which was being pruned.

Meanwhile, gardai in Donegal are preparing a file for the DPP following asuspected hit-and-run death.

The body of Ms Catriona Allen-Hamilton (23) was found on the roadside a short distance from her home at Coolaghy House, Raphoe, at about ^ a.m. on Saturday.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident but was released without charge.
