The N72/N70 Ring of Kerry national secondary road has seen a number of fatal accidents in recent years.
In the last eight months there have been five fatalities on the Ring of Kerry arising out of crashes.
In October of last year, Joss O'Brien (21), from Keel, Castlemaine, lost his life at Gortroe, Fossa, in a three-car collision.
Mr O'Brien was driving alone when he lost control at a bend. Seven people were hospitalised.
Further along the N70 road, on April 18th of this year, Theresa Foley (23), from Rangue, Killorglin, was a passenger in a single-vehicle crash near Beaufort.
She died in Cork University Hospital after the car in which she was travelling went out of control and struck a tree near Beaufort Bridge, midway between Killarney and Killorglin, at around 4am.
On November 27th, 2005, Martha Fitzgerald (31), also from Killorglin, lost her life in a single-vehicle crash.
It occurred at a bend at Laharn on a narrow stretch of the Ring of Kerry west of Killorglin at around 3am.
John O'Sullivan (22), from Kells, Co Meath, lost his life after his vehicle collided with another car.
This collision occurred on a relatively straight stretch of the Caherciveen to Waterville section of the Ring of Kerry in good conditions on February 5th, 2006.
The condition of the Ring of Kerry has been the subject of several motions by Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Cahill, who has called for funding to improve the route.
"Not alone is the Ring of Kerry Kerry's only premier tourist route. It is Ireland's premier tourist route.
"Yet we have a lot of dangerous bends, narrow roadway, a lot of dangerous stretches of roadway and poor quality of road surface," said Mr Cahill.
