Five people have died in separate road incidents in Co Donegal in the last 24 hours.

A man and a woman were killed after their car collided with a tree at Craig, Muff at around 3.15am. The 19-year-old woman, who was seriously injured in the collision, was taken Altnagelvin Hospital where she later died.

A short time earlier, a 59-year-old man died after the tractor he was driving left the road at Mountcharles at around 2am. The man's body has been removed to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Meanwhile, gardaí at Letterkenny are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident in which a woman was killed. The incident happened at Newline Road in Letterkenny shortly before 4am.

Yesterday, a teenager was killed in a road crash on the N56 between Creeslough and Dunfanaghy in Donegal. The dead man, who was in his late teens, was a front seat passenger in the car. The 19-year-old driver was seriously injured and was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment.

These latest deaths bring to 65 the number of people killed on the State's roads so far this year.
