Five people arrested yesterday over an international sex trafficking and prostitution racket were released without charge today.

A man and a woman remain in custody. The arrests were made after a series of raids on brothels and business premises around the country.

The two are being questioned in Tullamore and Carlow garda stations.

A garda spokesman said files on the five people released today, three women and two men, are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ten arrests were made as gardai and British police launched co-ordinated searches across Northern Ireland, the Republic and Wales.

Detectives believe they have broken up an international sex trafficking ring which has brought dozens of women from Africa and Latin America and forced them in prostitution all over Ireland.

A 47-year-old Irishman, believed to be the mastermind of the operation, is being questioned in Wales.
