A man who sexually assaulted a girl from the age of 11 has been sentenced to five years in jail by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The man (48), who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted the abuse to gardaí but claimed the girl had instigated one incident and said she had encouraged him. He pleaded guilty to seven sample counts of sexual assault between May 2003 and November 2004.
Judge Patrick McCartan imposed five years for “a sustained and continued abuse on a young child”.
