Algiers - Rescuers battled through mud left by floods in Algiers, but hopes of finding more survivors trapped in the rubble dwindled yesterday. Three bodies were pulled out on Wednesday night from the wreckage of the market of Oued Koriche, part of the working-class district of Bab El Oued and the centre of the catastrophe, civil defence officials said. The government said 651 people had died in the north African country's second-worst natural disaster since independence in 1962.
